Foamrox installs fireproof roof made of recycled glass

Midtstøl Transport, an Agder-based firm specializing in crane lifts, transport, and container rentals, has experienced fires several times at its waste facility on Høgedalsveien in Arendal, most recently in June 2020. The entire 120-meter-long hall burned out and had to be demolished. When the facility was rebuilt, a fireproof roof was high on the priority list. A fireproof roof prevents a fire from spreading, providing the opportunity to extinguish it before it causes major material damage.

The solution was a roof made of foam glass boards from Foamrox. Foam glass (foam glass) is by no means a new concept, but its many properties and applications in fire, water, and frost protection made it an excellent product for the Midtstøl project.

Foam glass is made from 100% recycled glass and is a good alternative to oil-based insulation. The product is non-combustible, resistant to pests, withstands high pressure, and is water-, vapor-, and frost-proof.

“We are incredibly pleased with the work Foamrox did for us. The solution using foam glass was something we hadn't thought of, but we now see that this is a unique product that will become a standard for fire safety in the years ahead. We are proud investors in Foamrox AS.” — Frode Midtstøl, CEO and owner of Midtstøl Transport

CEO of Foamrox, Glenn A. Jakobsen, is also pleased with the end product.
“We see that the demand for foam glass is increasing. We believe it is the product of the future for the construction industry, especially given the government's goal toward zero emissions.”
