Veidekke chooses Foamrox fire barriers for the Fornebu Line

On this project, none of the installers had previous experience with this solution, and therefore Foamrox was present to assist during the installation of the first fire barrier.

Foamrox has made the process easy for installers: Each fire barrier is delivered complete on one pallet with clearly numbered elements, all joints and screws, as well as assembly instructions that provide a full overview of the finished product. In addition, we ensure that the elements are stacked so that the assembly starts from the top of the pallet and continues downwards. This way, installers do not have to search for the right element, which makes the process both clear and efficient.

The assembly process itself is surprisingly simple, and after just half an hour we were able to hand over further assembly to the contractor. On average, it took 10 minutes to set up one element, and the feedback from Veidekke was positive.

“Veidekke has previously had good experience using Foamrox as a fire barrier in tunnels. Using Foamrox gives you a completely continuous membrane, unlike the more traditional fire barrier solution, which ensures a completely tight tunnel.

The environment also played a major role in the choice of Foamrox fire barrier. Both for the environmental accounting of the project, but also for the environment in the tunnel. The designed fire barrier will be sprayed with fire-resistant shotcrete in three layers, which creates dust for workers nearby. Shotcrete must also harden sufficiently between each layer, which requires additional HSE measures and can lead to logistical challenges as you cannot move under the freshly sprayed layer. We avoid these challenges with Foamrox.”

Foamrox products are known for their low weight and good fire resistance, in addition to having lower greenhouse gas emissions during production, transport and installation compared to competing solutions.
