Modular escape tunnel for the Bergen Light Rail
The Bergen Light Rail is a vital transport link for Bergen's residents, carrying 18 million passengers annually. The D18 Kronstad Tunnel bike path is a project where Veidekke built a retractable hall for Bane NOR's track switching. Foamrox delivered a 147-meter-long escape tunnel that runs parallel inside the hall.

The light rail system is a pioneer in sustainability and the environment and is working systematically to lower greenhouse gas emissions and become climate neutral. The advantages of using the Foamrox material are that it reduces CO2 emissions by over 50% compared to using low-carbon concrete.
The project involves several phases and many different actors are involved.
Veidekke chose Foamrox primarily to improve the environmental footprint and gain more flexibility in terms of installation and logistics. Foamrox provided us with a very favorable progress gain compared to a cast-in-place structure.
– Reidar Steinsland, project manager at Veidekke.
Foamrox' lightweight modular systems can be adapted to most constructions. This gives builders and contractors flexibility and great opportunities to save both time and money on planning, coordination, transportation and installation.
Steinsland further says;
Foamrox delivered excellent quality, workmanship and design. They demonstrated great flexibility and willingness to cooperate, which meant that the project was delivered according to the agreed schedule and cost framework.
Foamrox thanks you for the assignment and looks forward to the next exciting project together with Veidekke.
