Foamrox emergency exit installed in tunnel on new E18

Three people and a telescopic forklift were responsible for assembling the emergency walkway, and the entire process took four hours. The 12,5-meter emergency walkway consists of five sections, each weighing approximately 420 kilograms.

Responsible for water and frost protection, Sondre Svalastog at contractor AF Gruppen boasts about the product.

– The product is very easy to install, and has a clear advantage in terms of HSE in the assembly phase, short assembly time and few man-hours, and is practically turnkey with pre-painted surfaces. There is little rework and completion with this product, he says.

Nye Veier states in the announcement that the construction elements from Foamrox have been carefully reviewed by both the E18 Tvedestrand – Arendal project and AF to ensure that requirements for construction elements are sufficiently met.

"The products also prove to be competitive compared to other alternatives, and several of the products have already been used by the project. Nye Veier sees no challenges in the regulations with using the solutions frame for emergency cabinets (cellular glass), fire compartmentation (cellular glass), emergency passage/crossing (cellular glass), emergency kiosk (cellular glass). Nye Veier has decided to use the relevant products in a limited number of tests," writes the road developer.

"Furthermore, the project believes that the products are sufficiently documented with regard to external stresses and durability over time. Using cellular glass, which is recycled glass, instead of concrete products has a positive impact on the environmental balance sheet, and is an improvement in terms of HSE," concludes Nye Veier in the report.
